Your first scene,
one push away.
Connect the Figma desktop app and Godot on the same computer. Design, push, and start building your game.
1Install in Godot
Install the addon in each project you want to connect. Choose the method that matches your editor; each one installs the same addon.
From the Asset StoreGodot 4.7 and newer
- Open your game project and select the Asset Store tab. Click Go Online if prompted.
- Search for GUIRelay, open its listing, and choose a release compatible with your Godot version.
- Click Download. In Configure Asset, check that the addon files will go into
addons/figdot/, then click Install.
Use the store inside your open project. The Project Manager’s store is for standalone project templates.

- Download the Godot addon ZIP for a compatible GUIRelay release from its itch.io page or Asset Store listing.
- Extract it and place the
figdot/folder inside your game’saddons/folder. Createaddons/besideproject.godotif needed, keeping your other addons. - Return to Godot and let it import the files. Confirm that
res://addons/figdot/plugin.cfgexists.

The addon folder is named figdot. Keep that name and folder structure; don’t import the ZIP as a new Godot project.
Enable it in your project
After installing, open Project → Project Settings → Plugins and enable GUIRelay. Its dock appears beside the Inspector. Leave the Godot project open.
2Open in Figma
- Open a design file in the Figma desktop app.
- Open Tools in the left navigation, filter to Plugin, and search for GUIRelay.
- Open the plugin’s details and click Run. Save it to find it easily in other files.
You can also search GUIRelay in Figma Community, filter to plugins, open its listing, and choose Open in. Select a design file and open it in the desktop app.
Use a file you can edit. If your organization restricts plugins, request approval from an admin. Figma’s plugin guide ↗
3Connect the apps
- In the GUIRelay dock in Godot, click Copy Token.
- In the GUIRelay Figma plugin, open Settings, paste the token, and click Connect.
- Check that both sides show Connected and that Figma shows the intended Godot project.
The link runs locally. Connecting and pushing your designs is free, with no Figma API token needed. Keep the plugin running while you work. After restarting Godot or switching projects, copy the new token and reconnect.
4Your first push
- Click the Starter kit card in the plugin. It creates a “Design for Godot” page with a main menu, settings screen, and HUD.
- Click Push. Godot generates your scenes in
res://figma/<file name>/. - In the Godot dock, click Inherit beside a scene. Save the inherited scene in your project and add your game logic there.
- Change a color or layout in Figma and push again. Your generated scene updates.
For a portrait puzzle game, open Kits and click Add on Bubble Pop. Its six screens cover a level map, goals, puzzle board, victory, out of moves, and settings. The kit is free and its screens are linked automatically, ready to push.
To use your own design, select your frames and click Add selection (or Add on Screens), then Push. Enable Auto-push to send later changes automatically.

Keep your scripts and custom nodes in an inherited scene. GUIRelay maintains the generated base scene and updates stored inherited-scene paths when linked layers are renamed or moved in Figma.
Use Inherit in the dock for the first setup, and Re-import when you want to rebuild from the last pushed design. Subsequent pushes update the base while preserving your inherited work.
Treat the generated scene as the design source. Deleting a linked layer also removes its inherited edits. Node paths written inside scripts, such as $Title or get_node(), aren’t rewritten; check the import notes after renaming or moving layers.
Troubleshooting
The addon isn’t in Project Settings
Check for res://addons/figdot/plugin.cfg. A ZIP’s extra outer folder can leave it one level too deep. Install into your existing game project and enable the plugin there.
I can’t find it in Godot’s search
Search in the Asset Store tab, inside your project, on Godot 4.7 or newer. On earlier versions, or if it doesn’t appear, use the release ZIP.
The apps aren’t connecting
- Keep the Godot project open with the addon enabled, and run GUIRelay in Figma desktop on the same computer.
- Copy a fresh token from the project you want to use. Tokens change when Godot restarts.
- Paste it into the plugin’s Settings and reconnect. Check the project name before pushing.
- Read the Godot dock’s connection status and last import notes for the specific error.
